Kengtek is invited to present a keynote paper at the International Symposium on Innovative Technologies in the Phosphate Industry. Kengtek’s president Dr. J.Doucet will present a conference about new approaches in process design and address many examples from the industry that need to be revisited. This conference is organized by OCP (Office Chérifien des Phosphates), a national organization, which is the world’s leader in the phosphate rock and derivatives market, as well as the largest enterprise in the Kingdom of Morocco. This group is actually headed by Dr. Mostafa Terrab, who holds a PhD from MIT and was appointed assistant professor at MIT in the early nineties. The main objectives of the conference will be an occasion to bring together experts, industrialists, researchers, equipment suppliers, and consultants in order to:
- Share information and ideas,
- Review new techniques and technologies that can improve production,
- Discuss the best practices with an emphasis on sustainable development and environmental preservation,
- Envision the future of the phosphate industry in the context of a sustainable development approach and clean technologies,
- Develop new products.
The conference will be held in the very beautiful and attractive city of Marrakech between May 10 and 13th 2011.

Last Thursday, Dr. Doucet presented a lecture entitled “Towards a new approach of consulting engineering in chemical engineering”. The aim of the conference was to present the distinction between consulting engineering in processes and in chemical engineering involving different levels of design. “In essence, process engineering includes chemical engineering”, says Dr. Doucet. “The basic specifications related to the scale-up of equipment depend mainly on the scaling of mass transfer and energy”.
As such, several examples from concrete projects were presented to the students and industry representatives as well as members of the department of chemical engineering present at the conference. In particular, the different target audiences have been presented. First, many companies who have mastered their processes (petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food) that often require expertise to adapt their technologies to different products or new types of reactors. Then there are the consulting engineering firms that require specific expertise in the design of certain types of reactors and separation units. Finally, the venture capital firms that have an idea, a few fragmentary results in the laboratory and must scale up their process quickly. People attending the conference particularly appreciated the dynamism of Dr. Doucet and his concrete examples used to illustrate his topic.
The Kengtek team wishes to emphasize that they particularly enjoyed the evening and the quality of students present at the integration projects booths where students showed chemical engineering design projects. “We have a solid succession currently preparing itself for tomorrow’s challenges” confides Teacher Chaouki of the Polytechnique Montreal. We have been fortunate to meet as many dynamic and competent students, susceptible to join our team.
Thank you for having us in your university, we enjoyed our evening and look forward to following of this meeting.

Kengtek is proud to attend the World congress of Particle Technology 6 in Nurnberg April 26-29 2010 (www.wcpte6.org). This conference is held every 4 years and is also the opportunity for the powder industry to regroup and discuss challenges and new technologies. Dr. J. Doucet, president of Kengtek Services, is actively supporting the field of powder technology as being organizer of the symposium in Non-Intrusive Methods in Particle Technologies at the WCCE8 (www.wcce8.org) held in Montreal in July 2009 and also an invited speaker at the WCPTE5 held in Orlando in 2006 and at the PARTEC held in Nurnberg in 2007. This participation to the congress will also benefit to on-going projects with current Kengtek’s clients dealing with non-conventional powder applications or material with poor particulate properties in various applications (agglomeration, drying, separation, fluidization).

18 months ago, Kengtek chose to get involved in humanitarian work. Jacques Bazin, President of JB Humanitarian, had launched a flexible agricultural program aiming to reduce significantly poverty on a 5 to 10 years basis. Based on his field expertise in Haiti, his knowledge of the land and his understanding of the people, JB Humanitarian already built school and organized medical clinics in forgotten areas for the poorest of the poorest people. However, Jacques wanted to insure the longevity of his program.
At Kengtek, we believe it is possible to come up with a significant characterization of what is a sustainable development. For us, sustainable means transferring knowledge to the people by supporting their project in their communities. It also refers to their understanding of how to use the resources of their community.
Kengtek came up with the idea to produce energy and water to sustain the efforts of JB Humanitarian. The Project W2E defines the kind of support we are ready to give so the community can rebuild confidence, pride and remember how good it feels to lean on one and each other.

Due to the increasing demand of engineering services and R&D support for process development, Kengtek Inc. has moved into new offices located on St-Foy Blvd, Longueuil. The increased footprint will allow for hiring more highly skilled design technicians and engineers. This location is part of the expansion strategy that will also provide enough floor space for development of new modern laboratories and development of the new analytical service division (Kengtek AS). These facilities will be used for the sake of increasing demand for process engineering and development.
After three years in Brossard, the company is now moving forward and now owns its head office building that will now be the foundation of a strong engineering company in the field of process engineering. “The upcoming years offer great challenges and outstanding process engineering opportunities for our small company” says Jocelyn Doucet, president of Kengtek. With its new head office, the company can now hire more employees, which provides an enviable position for the future for expansion.
Kengtek Head Office address is now 685 Bl. Ste Foy, Longueuil, Quebec, Canada J4J 1Z1.

An extensive 3 years research agreement was signed with Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, the engineering school affiliated with University of Montreal. The research program will mainly focus on conversion of waste into energy (W2E) from an original standpoint. The project is under direct supervision of Dr. Doucet and Pr. Chaouki and is undergone by a Ph.D. candidate.
“This project will fight against existing paradigms in waste management”, says Pr. Chaouki from the department of Chemical Engineering. In fact, new patents are going to be filed shortly as regards to the technology developed within this project. “It is a good opportunity for us to position strategically in the field of waste treatment and valorization”, says Dr. Doucet from Kengtek Inc. In fact, increasing demand for energy and constant growth of waste constitutes the challenge of the 21st century and offers outstanding technology and market opportunities
